Is this the year...?

Is this the year for a local YFT ?
I found em 2 miles out of Dana Point during the last El Niño in the 90's.

If they can catch a local wahoo...anything is possible. How about the return of bluefin to Santa Monica Bay...now were talking!

Dana Point- Long Beach area is looking interesting, warmest bubble of water, closest to the beach.

"60 lb lost it at the boat" got it wrapped it up in the props only 2 miles out of Newport- at least that's what he said, trolling cedar plugs and a green and white feather- hooked it on the feather--- says they saw a whale and big pods of dolphin birds bait-- that's within rowing distance! 9:42 am
were right on the 267 saw some 60 80ers this morning--- they're here!
I got a jumper- 9:50 there's some fish jumping off your port side
They're big ones--- had em' come under the boat 4 or 5 times-- there's plenty of fish here-- maybe later when the tide turns-- OK good luck( offshore fishing grounds 209/ 277)
We got one 6 off Dana on a nat. cedar plug---- saw multiple fish after that and they wouldn't touch it---
They're pretty quick- tried mac's, sardines- all of it- the only one I got was at 9 am this morning on that cedar plug-- I have not tried a popper yet!
--- not many fish hooked so far today that I've heard of -- 12:45- JD wind switched a little coming from the south now skys stil a bit overcast-
I had those big models up all around us this morning between the two banks the 209 and the 277 had em' all around the boat but they've gone down for now-- 12:59pm

Huggy Bear, the word on the streets is that bft could be within paddle range LAST Saturday under the paddys from Orange County...of course I can not confirm nor deny such rumors.

I also think this could be THE season for kayak yft & dorado again.
Don't have to paddle far to be in blue warmer water. I just hope we find pay dirt before Rossman. lol

The most impressive thing about that would be towing the thing back to the launch!

We could plan a day for a bunch of kayaks to go offshore and we can all be a hundred or so yards apart and try to get some tuna. We could just all be on the same radio station. With 10 kayaks 100ish yards apart that's more or less a thousand yards and we could cover a lot of ground

Lol! One was caught in Long Beach this weekend at the 150. Seems that all the opah hold deep and have been caught as a by catch either vertical jigging or yoyo jigging for yellows.

Anyone ready to paddle to horseshoe kelp?

Weekday

If somehow, you guys are able to do a mid week trip offshore, then you can count me in. I will definately be looking for someone to do some offshore trips with this summer.
