Seems like every 2 months it goes on sale at west marine or BPS.. If you can, wait if not Amazon has some deals along with eBay..

I can tell you I don't think there is a big enough difference to want a chirp.. The chirp sonar from DF are better, hands down but still a new product and who knows reliability yet..

I know my buddies chirp 5 next to my Elite5 stomps it, his chirp model seem to catch everything yet filter very well (adjusting the sensitivity/options is key). Haven't really had any first hand usage with the DF, is it really worth the extra $150?

I also just compared my Elite5 with a buddies Chirp a few weeks ago. We were dialing in his new FF at LJ and were using the same settings. His chirp unit provided a lot more detail about fish and structure and did a much better job of filtering out clutter. I found his way easier to read, and when I tried to filter the same amount on my sonar I lost a lot of target definition.

I think he said he paid $349 for the 83/200 + 455/800 Navionics Gold package on sale from West Marine last month. That's what I paid for my Elite5 6 months ago. Right now I'm regretting not getting chirp. My suggestion would be to wait for the next WM sale and get the chirp unit.
