Do not shoot wild life!
Wildlife that is protected should not be shot.

I'd like to see the image showing shrapnel in it's wing. I'm no CSI "expert" but when did lead bullets leave shrapnel in a thin wing. Even a .22 would pass right through that wing. Some birds just have crappy luck.....just like people. Hope he/she heals up quick!
Dove are tasty....hmmmm...so are quail....love those upland birds. |

I can't wait till Sept 1. Dove madness!! So fun. And good to eat.
It pisses me off that others will shoot anything that moves or flies. Gives us legal hunters/fisherman a bad image. |

Completely irresponsible. Someone sure needs to be held accountable.
Many possibilities....kids with a pellet gun goofing-off or even a vindictive or careless adult, plinking with a .22 short or long. Regardless, I Agree, all true/legal *Hunters*, would have absolutely nothing to do with this. It obviously has nothing to do with Hunting. Clear and Simple, it's cruelty to animals, and Protected animals at that. Flagrant violation of Fish & Game laws. The Media *normally* identifies these illegal actions to *Hunters* and rarely uses the term *Poachers*. I am happy to see a fair and decent level of accurate journalism in this article, which neither of the terms were used, as this was clearly an example of cruelty to animals. On the flip side, I have a hard time believing Pelicans are endangered. Every time I come into the bay with leftover bait, 100's of these boys come flocking in for freebies. It's fun to pick out the small/weaker ones and try to get the baits to them. It's a little nerve-racking tho when you have that many beaks poised at the ready, only inches from your own nose. hahahahaha I hope this guy survives and thrives! |

The guy should have used turkey shot instead of birdshot, then there wouldn't be any 'shrapnel' in his wing.
Just kidding, no real reason to shoot pelicans. They aren't that much a nuisance.
