How much is your time worth ?

Great unit , especially if you want to keep it ultra light on kayak . But , the hds 5 has come down on price tremendously . I would say save more and grab the five . check either west marine or bass pro .whatever you do , don't leave without extended warranty . When it breaks or is obsolete , bust it up and get a new one or credit towards purchase of replacement .

My two cents ...

I had an Elite 4 for about 6 months, I got rid of it because of the menu system and non-intuitive interface AND the fact that everyone was spotting fish and not me. I know this is more expensive but I went with Raymarine DragonFly. Spend the extra money and go with the DragonFly!

I fished for about a year and a half with the 4 (non-GPS version) and the whole time I couldn't wait to upgrade the thing. It found bottom depth and composition (hard vs soft) pretty well but I didn't have much luck marking fish on it. This year I bought the Dragonfly and I have no regrets and no plans of upgrading anytime soon.

The 4 was great for me just starting out and not knowing if I would even stick with this whole kayak fishing thing, but in my opinion, save yourself upgrading later and get a DF or a 5 instead.

I sure hate to see anyone throw good money after bad, and yes I still have a lowrance on the wife's outback but the dragonfly literally helps you catch the fish you see on the ff. Yes the fish still have to be in the feeding mood and no ff can change that. The dragonfly puts you right on any school and can watch your lure fall right in the pack and ever since I bought dragonfly I have caught at least one fish from every drop into those schools. I LOVE IT!!

Yes includes the 83/200 transducer. Spend the extra 40 for warrenty and you can return anytime just like at west marine. The unit comes with a screen cover and map card as well.

As far as dragonfly unit it is better but so are other units that cost double the price. For the elite at 300 compared to dragonfly at 700 it's good enough for the type of fishing we do on a kayak. I have seen the DF in action and its a nice unit and after comparing side by side you can see the difference in fish schools but at this price point can't beat the elite HDI unit.
