Newport morning sesh before the game 10/26/14
fficeffice" /> Most of the better fish this day were clobbering the heavy glow iron. And to think I just tied it on to switch things up. I was using a technique to get the goats to bite where I would carefully sweep the iron along the bottom trying to avoid catching the reefs. I think that action is what got this guy to jump on it in 165’ of h2o. It was a good 5 – 7 minute fight getting him to gaff. Not sure on the weight, hopefully the flat-kin pros here can offer a guess. My guess was somewhere near 30? He was solid and definitely my PB Butt. Taped out to 36” L and a little over 3” thick. The day was great and couldn’t possibly have been better… and then… GO STILLERS!!!

That's some awesome fishing! Gj. Wish I could go out there. All I have is my stealth 9 to fish the harbor.

Nice catch!!! Just started to get into the kayak fishing. Bought a PA14 couple weeks ago, but have no clue on where to go. Before heading down to fish with the big boys in La Jolla, would you be kind enough to school me the newport area? Those rockfish would be great for taco. If you don't mind, hit me up next time you head out of Newport. Or anyone who's heading out.
Thx |

Yellfever11-
I haven't been out on the yak in a month but would like to hit up Newport sometime soon. It's been a while, and Newport is my choice of places to fish since it's the closest, and there is many options (rockfish in the canyon, halibut and spotties in the harbor, and calicos in the kelp just south). Maybe I could join you sometime. LBKAYAKDUDE lives close too, so maybe he would come too. Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk
