It'll be a 1st time in La Jolla with a PA14 for me if I decide to go. Nervous, anxious, excited, but it all depends how tired I am from a long day of work and the 2 hour drive journey.

Can I suggest that you hail the Coast Guard on 16 one hour before you launch and again before you land and have them issue a Pan-Pan for the Southern California waters. There are some new names on the list and I'm afraid they will not take your warning seriously.

Iceman,

I twisted my bosses arm and pinched his nipples until he agreed to provide me with some drinks for this event . sorry for the late notice but I didn't want to say anything until it was a done deal. I'm starting to think he was holding out because he really enjoyed the nipple pinching

I'll be brining enough drinks for everyone, water included

Sheeeet, your boss must've seen my name on the list. I float San Diego's Coke Classic numbers all by myself. That being said, can you please bring (1) with "Legend", (2) with Star and (1) with Friend for me please? I love you Jorge. Jim

I'm in, I already paid. If my boss lets me have a day off, I will be there. If not, I will be disappointed. Good luck everyone!

2 things. George, that's a big reason I got rid of my PA 14; and, I was wondering when I'd see Patrick on the water...

I bought my PA14 the day before the rock fish derby, since that day I have only made 2 surf launches. I fish every weekend, literally every weekend......wait, I think I skipped one weekend because I was out of town. If I include the weekends or trips when I fished twice multiple days that means that I've fished roughly 25-30 times since I bought my PA, that means that roughly 93% of the time I do not need to do a surf launch.................that's how I justify it. So far I'm 1 for 2 on the surf launches/landings, lets see how this weekend treats me

As far as Patrick goes, I heard he might end up launching this weekend, the surf is predicted to be at 1'.

Sept 6th La Jolla HOW Fundraising tournament

Sorry Yanni, can't make Saturday. This vertigo is killing me. Every time I move my head I get the spins.driving the car sucks too. I tried the bay on a flat day and it was all i could do to not go over. I hope to be on the water soon.

When I'm ok, I don't mind surf as long as the intervals are long enough that I can get on the yak. Two bad knees and a bad hip make it a tricky process that takes time for me. Never going to give it up though!

Don't worry, I'll bring some water wings and a dry towel for you.

Even though some who signed up aren't going to be able to make it, the list looks so much better. George thanks for re-posting that video again. I laughed almost as hard as I did the first time it was up after the Rock Fish Tournament. George I didn't notice it the first time I saw it but why where you back paddling in the surf. It just kept you in the middle longer. Just remember the rudder is useless once the wave catches you, so keep paddling or drag the paddle in the water when the kayak is trying to turn, in order to keep it straight. You should make it OK this time. If not I'm sure Tony will be there with his GO PRO. See you on Saturday. Tight Lines Mark.

How much does OEX charge for an angler package that day for veterans? My navy buddy might be interested in going.

About 14 hours to go! The cut off for entries will be midnight which is the earliest you are allowed to launch. Be smart and be safe!

3 weeks ago we only had 4 entries, this made it really hard to hit up sponsors for prizes. We considered pulling the plug, but decided to stick with it, confident that we would make a worth while contribution to Heroes on the Water. Thanks to everyone's generosity we currently have over $1000 to give to HOW and I will cut a check for the final number and present to HOW tomorrow.

Lacking in sponsored prizes OEX has added a few from our inventory to round things out.

BIG thanks to everyone who has entered and especially those that entered knowing they would not be there

Prizes will be given to the over all biggest fish, who will also win their division as well, biggest YT, biggest WSB, biggest halibut, "other" consisting of sheephead, ling cod, white fish or rock fish.

Over all winner will receive the custom rod wrapped by Skrilla
Biggest yellowtail will win a Werner Hooked Tybee Paddle and custom gaff
Biggest white seabass will win a Pisces PFD and battery box
Biggest halibut will win an OEX Ultimate tank
Biggest other category will win palm sculpted fish

Any category not filled will be raffled per angler number, you do not need to be present to win raffle.

We also have some crowd tossing sharp hooked eye pokers! give aways

We will be serving fish tacos (Thanks Tony!)starting at noon, make sure you are in line to weigh your fish by 1pm! see the map link at the top of this post.
