FYI:
I asked ANDY (OEX SSB) last week to confirm the rumors that had been posted here about a Vantage seat on/for the Outback for 2015. He informed me he was headed for a trade show this week. Look for him to post or at least be able to answer all our questions upon his return.
I informed him that providing there were no major changes to the hull, if the rumors about the seat were true I wanted one as soon as they come out (and "tricked out" just like my current one)!
Can't wait!

I'm hearing a $300 bump. That seat is outrageously trick, plus there's the new model Mirage Drive.

No backwards compatibility that I'm aware of at this time.

Backwards travel is not a problem, what would I otherwise do with my $400+ Werner paddle? LOL!

Very true guys. I'm curious to see what improvements were made on the mirage drive that addresses some of the issues past ones faced like broken mast/arms etc. 300 sounds about right and reasonable.

The real test is going to be how the new hull performs on the water. My biggest issue is launching the outback as it tends to turn to much during launch or landings. Either way excited and glad I waited it out before deciding on a PA.

I think PAL was referring to the new drive not being a drop in replacement for early mirage equipped kayaks?

Looks like new mirage drive has retrofit capabilities.

I have an 2013 Outback now and these improvements together might get me to consider a new one:

1. More scuppers that hold wheel cart and livewell simultaneously.
2. Lowrance Ready
3. Vantage Seat

I'm almost thinking pro-angler but I do a lot of surf launch/landing and am comfortable with the outback's handling there.

Curious about the scupper holes that self suck water out when peddling at least 3 mph according to videos.

Since most surf launch take on water will drainage be an issue?

I'm assuming that the new Hobies are using a sort of Venturi Effect for some of the scuppers. Assuming that the channels on the underside of the Kayak create a high pressure and then when you open the valves the pressure drops and scavenges the water from the deck area?

Not all models will come with that added idler pulley

Outback...............answers here.

3 different Vantage model seats, one for the PA 17, 1 for the PA 12 and 14 and 1 for all the rest from Sport to the Revo 16, all these seats are in the same position relative to the water as the original back rest, so you do not sacrifice stability for comfort and only raise it when and where wanted.

thanks Andy for the update interesting that they didn't go with the rectangular hatch in the middle for the outback

I'm almost thinking pro-angler but I do a lot of surf launch/landing and am comfortable with the outback's handling there.

I was also thinking to upgrade from my current Outback, just for the scupper transducer (Andy installed a wet mount but not too happy with performance. Water temp important fishing LMB & Stripers).
Didn't want to go with a Pro Angler due to the restrictions on Kayak Charters.
I wanted to wait to see if they upgraded the center hatch to a rectangular one like the Pro Angler's. Didn't think they'd be able to upgrade to a better seat until 2016-2017.
Can't wait to see how the Turbo Fins work with the ball bearings. Looks like I'll have to airbrush my Turbos "Blue". I wonder...does that mean I can rename them "Turbo BlueFins"?
I really like what they've done and I'm 99% sure I'll be ordering one from Andy as soon as they're available . (I guess I'll just have to have Andy install a rectangular hatch.)
Can't wait for them to be available.

Center hatch can be done afterwards so really your getting everything on your wish list.

My only concern was a new bottom hull as tracking is not great when paddling in and out the surf which is 100% of what I do. Thought maybe they would increase length or something but probably next time around.

Looks like all top of hull changes which is good as well and enough for me to test it out and pick one up as well. The skeg is cool and would had been nice on outback as well. Overall great changes.
