New to the forum

Hey everybody, just thought that I would stop lurking in the shadows and actually post something. I'm newish to San Diego (5 months ) and I've been trying to absorb as much local fishing knowledge as possible, from every source possible. I think I have figured out the spotties (at least on some days) , I got my first keeper halibut last week in Mission Bay. Still looking for my first calico, SoCal Rockfish and Yellowtail. I know it's a matter of time on the water, just like salmon in the PAC NW. I could use a little help on the best places to fish for rock fish and calico bass any advice is great. I'm up for fishing this Saturday if any one needs/ wants a partner .

-Bernie

Welcome, You will find all of your target species in La Jolla.

Look for a low swell day 1 -2 foot or less for your first launch.

All of the Kayak fisherman will answer your questions on the water in La Jolla, they are extremely helpful.

calico I can catch !

I like the skirted war baits w/ big a hammer and some scent... pro-cure or uni-butter. drop on the edge of the kelp canopy to the bottom let it swim down and that calico should be off your list in no time.

Or if you have a bait tank flyline a chovie with a 1/8oz weight on the edge of the kelp and bam calicos all day. For plastics I really like the Zman Paddlerz, those things are calico killers.
