Dana Point 6/20

Went out in the afternoon as planned. Picked up some good sized anchovies at the receiver... they were hearty fish. was going to stay south then last minute went north.

Were plenty of boats/lines in the water outside the headlands. Dana Wharf had two boats close. the haul for me was all bass all released. Mostly all caught deeper w/ plastics (war head & skirt). Brown and smelt green/white did well. Only 2 fish on the Halibut rig and they weren't the right kind (bass & big lizard fish).

My observations...
1) 8 # mono is about as light I can handle near the kelp.
2) Jigging that war-bait off the bottom is almost certain to catch something. (this time nice sand bass)
3) Going out in the afternoon into pm is challenging. after the sun sets day-light goes fast.

Water temp reading was 72. Have a great sunday!

Did you observe why there were so many boats out there?

They were probably on squid beds. I was out about half mile north of the domes and we noticed three groups of boats anchored on the squid beds looking for WSB.
