Newport would probably be easier since you can launch in protected waters and fish the harbor if water is too rough outside..were going Saturday maybe Cabrillo

I was planning on fishing Newport tomorrow. PM me if you are interested. If you are a newbie I would recommend starting in Newport.

I guess I didn't word that the best. I have taken my kayak out several times just not the most experienced fisherman in it. I am comfortable with paddling and fishing in it, I am just not a fish killing machine in it. Yet....

Ended up fishing newport harbor and the kelp off corona del mar today. I woke up and didn't feel like driving 4 hours round trip for 7 or 8 hours of fishing. Caught a juvenile wsb, couple each or calicos, sand bass and spotties. Good day overall, great weather and nice water. Had something big hooked for about 2 seconds off the kelp before the hook pulled out.

From chino hills. If have fished it a few times and caught lots of fish. I usually just use swimbaits or fin bait
