Newport rockfish
I got my first outback this week (thanks to jorluivil). I have never been after rockfish on a 'yak before, so got any tips? I will be going out of Newport this Saturday. Is a fishfinder absolutely necessary, or will I be able to find 'em by doing random drops in 200+ ft of water? I usually fish out of lb where most spots are small but have no idea how big general rockfish areas are out of Newport. Any other tips such as general direction/location? I do have a garmin 540s sitting in my garage, but it doesnt have any cables/transducer. Anybody willing to sell his/hers? |

For Newps, you'll definitely need a fishfinder. Unless there are a bunch of other kayaks out there, then you can probably see if you can fish next to them. Otherwise, you have as much shot of getting an RF out there as you do catching a yellowtail out of NPH.
