Boat vs. Kayak Fishing
Two weeks ago I spent a nice day on the kayak down at the Jewel, and the Jewel proved its name. With no one in sight, I caught a beauty. Excuse my face that was a damn heavy fish! And finally, I got one on video. from Tanner Smith on Vimeo. And I got a sweet bendo shot of my new Seeker, courtesy of the Darkhorse. Oh, and did I mention that there was no one out there!! Then, the next weekend I saw the Malihini had a sweet count the day before (Sunday), so I thought I would give the kayak a rest and go for it with my cousin on the boat. Long story short, the whole boat essentially skunked, with 4 yellows for 50 guys. Sure, a bunch of people caught rockfish, but who cares? That being said, I was lucky enough to pick up one yellow, but it was only 20 pounds. It was really frustrating for me to make the 2 hour drive down south, pay $130 for one little fish. I don't even want to know how pissed the other people that didn't catch anything were. But hey, better than a day at school! |

Nice Yellars! Occasionally I do the boat thing as well. Family or friends that don't have a yak is usually the reason. We have access to some of the best fishing on the planet at the Jewel. IMO, no comparison...KAYAK HANDS DOWN!

Nice job kid
I too have not had the chance to catch a YT on my kayak. Like someone else said, hopefully that changes this summer. I am out of my element in LJ. My 53 yrs have given me a fair amount of fear the young folks like you don't have yet.... AS IS EVIDENT BY YOUR LACK OF PDF!! Ok, done preaching and NICE JOB. You inspire me!

What's not to like? Beautiful fish, cool video, great bendo shot. Got your cake and got to eat it too.
Oh yeah- may want to get that reel serviced too. Looks a little wet. |
