Since I'm not fishing this weekend I plan on spending a day or two getting all of my gear in order.

I have about 50lbs of blue fin tuna heads ready to go. I just need to get my gear all patched. I'm going into this season opener with premium bait this yr, lol!

That's an awesome haul, I've only had one or two similar to that. I think I had 5 keepers on this one pull

Still not ready for this season, Macks have been hard to find and nothing in the size I need.

Even finding new nets is an issue most tackle shops still dont have any yet...I guess there was run on them last month. Tho I did find a nice deal at Sav-on tackle on some danielson conical nets, $20 for one or six $100.

Rain or shine I'll be headed out on opening weekend.

Counting the Days

Can't wait for bug season. I have been looking for replacement nets on craigslist for the past few months and it is ridiculous, people asking $50 for an eclipse net, $30 for a flat net. I finally just broke down and bought 2 new eclipse nets for $32 a piece.

Does anyone have any good leads for buying salmon heads in bulk? Last year there was a group buy for dirt cheap and I would love to get in on that.

I'll be dropping nets at Carrillo Beach Sept 27 along the jetty next to the piers @ 11pm and pulling Sept 28 @midnight? Legal to do so?

There's been a lot of talk about this on previous threads. Save yourself the trouble of trying to figure out right from wrong and just drop them after midnight.

Agreed, You have the whole season and will a couple of hours really make that big of a difference? Or is it really worth having your time wasted by DFG?

Just a heads up I've been searching for macs and dines and have not caught a single one my last 4-5 trips out of Newport. It's bad right now. I was planning a trip out of town just to load up on bug bait. Its sad

i use blue promar lights. they seem to have improved last years model from the original design.
plus i have lots of extra batteries for them. you get two set if batteries with each light.

tip: do not leave the lights out in the sun, it will turn the glow in the dark black and weaken the light output.

These usually last me through the season. And they are cheap.

I feel your pain...Might just make bait at the islands if things improve with the bait.
