Dry Top and Pants
I am getting ready to gear up for colder weather/nighttime fishing and hoopnetting. I have been looking into different "dry" gear. (waders, or pants/jacket combo. Has anyone used Bomber Gear before? I found these on sale. Any insight as to whether or not these would be a good option for San Diego colder weather would be greatly appreciated. (never been out in anything but board shorts!) Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Pants are on sale for $79 (retail is $190) http://www.bombergear.com/products/h...dry-pants-2012 Tops are on sale for $74 (retail is $250) http://www.bombergear.com/products/h...e-dry-top-2012 |

Personally, I think the top is a little 'over the top', if you know what I mean. Keep in mind that those tops keep water out but keep heat in, the more you move around the more heat you'll build up and the hotter its going to get under that jacket, I would go with a lighter top like the NRS paddle Jacket. When I fish or hoop in the winter I usually wear a splash jacket with a long sleeve shirt under for additional warmth, if it gets to hot I can take the jacket off and still be somewhat covered up.

When I first got into Kayaking I used some Bomber gear stuff. It's well made keeps you very dry but it's really made for white water kayaking not fishing. I had a drytop similar to the one pictured and it was great for launching in cold rough conditions because when on right you couldn't get water past it, that said it didn't breath very well and was very hard to get on and off. So usually as the day went on I'd get hot, take it off (which was hard on the water), and then not use it all day. I think your better off with more of breathable open sweatshirt style that has just a drawstring neoprene seal at the waist and velcro seals at the neck and cuffs. Something you can take on and off and layer underneath for warmth. Something like this Kokatat on ebay: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Kokatat-Raft...item5af448f959 Bomber gear is good gear but in my opinion that top is not going breathable, comfortable, or versatile enough for kayak fishing. For a while I stopped fishing in mine and then just used it for hooping. It worked alright for that but I eventually moved on to better gear made with Goretex, so I really don't use it any more. If your set on buying one I'll sell you mine cheap it's still in perfect condition, but it's just not what I use these days. Jim Last edited by Fiskadoro; 08-20-2013 at 04:41 PM. |

Thanks for your input amigos! That's kind of what I thought when I saw these. All the pictures show the being used in whitewater applications. Are most of you guys using waders or pants? Are dry pants high enough in the back to keep water from getting in?
