I'll be the first to tell you, I have no clue what I'm doing out there. All I've ever caught out there is a sheep head. I looking for someone to show me the ropes. Don't worry, I'll be back out there soon. Not looking to slay um, just looking to get my first.

How about you leave some of them for the rest of us to catch!!! Am thinking about tomorrow morning. And for those other folks reading Todd has the launch / landing dialed in there, it's like he valet parks his car at the launch!!!

Congrats on a tasty catch!

Congrats!!! it looks like you found them.
Here's some friendly advise: If you're not already doing so PLEASE make sure you're measuring the halibut using the bottom/flat/white side of the fish. If a halibut measures 23" fish on the top side the under side may be under 22" when its laid flat on the DFW's measuring device.

Lots of guys get in trouble with Halibut that they measure on the water at an inch or so over 22. The two most common reasons are that they are measuring over the curve of the fish, and they leave the mouth open. Measuring on the white side can reduce the effects of the curve of the back (which is almost always greater) but is still not perfect. The DFW is going to measure your fish on a flat board that they slide your fish down, head first, until the mouth completely closes. If you have a large flat rail on your yak, mark the legal sizes on it. Then lay the fish out to get a more accurate measurement. Or you can do what I do and attach a stick on tape measure to your paddle and lay the fish over it in your lap. Either way, make sure you are landing the close ones with a net or boga cause they are easier to measure when not on a gaff.

Nice job Todd! You've come a long way since that day of your Sheephead.
Well done indeed. Also, great tip Jorge/Greg, about which side to measure on halibuts.

Greg, thanks for the follow up on that. I'm not trying to take any love away from anyone, just trying to keep you safe. I remember my first legal, I measured that damn thing about 48 times; 21.5", 21.965", 24", 22.789", 23.57849.5, 8675309............
