I've got more than my fair share on the North Island side, from the North Island pier to the end of the Jetty.

Right off the drop offs at both ends of the island off of the shoals is good. Also the best spot I have found is the mud flat from the bait barge all the way down the stretch of the fueling pier. The outside of the sail boats downtown the stretch of the island in 4o'-45' is killer as well. My biggest halibut, about 40"-42" came right in front of the beach...... Good to you guys. They are biting right now. My last three trips out have been filled with raked baits on plastics.
