La Jolla Noob Question

I'm new to the whole saltwater kayak fishing experience and had a question about launching out of La Jolla (avenida de la playa). In the past I've done a lot of kayak fishing in sit in kayaks on lakes. I just purchased my first fishing kayak and it is a large and heavy kayak and must be transported by a cart, unless I have a partner help with carrying the load.

When you all launch from avenida de la playa, do you wheel your kayaks to the beach and carry the cart back to your vehicle and leave the kayak unattended? Or do you drop the kayak off on the beach and go park your vehicle?

Any tips/advice would be greatly appreciated!

You can chain it against the wooden poles if you don't carry it with you. I've seen people leave it chained...

On my first La Jolla trip I wheeled my Stealth 12 to and from my car to the beach. Wheeling it in the morning with all the gear and no people was relatively easy. However when you are done and try to get back to your car it is much more difficult. You have to deal with the tons of people walking between you and your vehicle making sure that your poles do not hit anyone or any one's car. Also by this point you will likely be tired making it a bit of a chore to pull the yak even with the cart. Also when parking in the morning make sure the back of your car is directly in front of a red zone. I had someone park an inch from my vans trunk because they thought that they could squeeze in there and not be in the red zone. I don't know how i would have loaded the yak back on the car if a couple of people had not offered me to help get it on. Another thing to consider on the return is that if fishing was good then you will have a lot more weight in your yak on the pull back to the car. Lesson I took from this experience is that A. Come on a day that will not be crowded B. Park as close to the launch as possible and C. Get a vehicle that will be much less likely to get stuck in sand so i can pull up on the peach to load and unload.

I had a few weird stares when I drove my VW Golf out on the sand to unload and load. In the morning I unloaded and then drove off to park. In the afternoon I did ask another BWE yaker that had landed about the same time as me to keep an eye on my gear while I went and got my car. Then again, it's La Jolla, not Carson, or Long Beach lol.

I carted mine on sunday. Only had to go a block and I got there at 6:00. If you want to drop it off and park, I would try and set up a meeting with someone you trust and take turns parking cars.

I pull on on the beach and drop off my yak. The earlier the better.

If you are worried about leaving the yak unattended, then make sure it is in view of the webcam as there is always someone watching.

I be there early tomorrow
