We Need More Tournaments for us Kayakers

It's come to my attention that we just don't have enough tournaments here in the West for us Kayakers. Sure we see the boats having their tourneys, but why are we left out? Is it lack of involvement, sponsors, locations? What ever it is we need to figure out a way to get more of these going out here.

I havent seen you place or registered at a single one this year?

Support our local California Kayak Fishing Community..
Because if you don't then the GREAT ones like the Moyer ect will be defunct, and then asking for more!?...
Plenty of sponsors and prizes including a Hobie live Well.
The 2013 C.K.F.S. was put in place specifically & exactly for this reason...

Please support Patricks' Bass & Brew also!

Ahhh......ahem!
Mine isn't exactly a tournament, but you can make all the side bets you want that day. And console yourself with a beer if you lose. 😃

Wade, this isn't the only Kayak fishing website, there are others and I do participate in those tourneys. I don't understand your attack upon my suggestion.

I have signed up and particpated in the OEX tourneys the last couple of years, the OBB, and a few others. I also have a family so I'm not always able to cut off from them.

The point of this thread was not to wage a fight with anyone but to try and find out why there are tourneys almost every weekend on the East Coast but out here we have to beg and scrape to get any going. I don't get it.

Seems like I've been fishing in one every month or so all year! Sure - most are not one day big affairs, but they are tournaments nonetheless...

Wade made a post nearly identical to yours some time ago - then did something about it! I've been trying to support every part of the series, even though I don't have much chance of winning due to lack of fishing mojo...

But yes, you are correct - the east coast seems to get all the good tournaments...

That's all I'm saying, let's all work together on this, and I know Wade has been doing an outstanding job on this, and I'm going to participate in these more myself. In no way am I trying to step on any toes or take any credit for anything. I'm trying to get more involved. I apologize if anything I said upset anyone.

Jimmy, we need to get to know each other as a like minded community. Give it time. I think it is going to be a while before we get a core group together that has the kind of comraderie that the original BWE guys had and I'm sure still have. For me, I fish because I really like fishing. I don't have a single "Fishing Buddy", that is, someone I fish with on a regular basis. I am always up to fish with anyone that's on the water with me. I recently met Wade and I think he and I will fish together soon. Summer is coming and I think there will be more people looking to angle together.

I am not attacking anyone or anything?...
What I am doing, is putting it into proper perspective..
I am talking about this year, not several years ago..
Consistency is key in all things in life, especially fishing.
We all have families, thats how we all originally got here...
The C.K.F.S. was designed for the family man, and the conservationist in mind..Open dates as to not put pressure on our fisheries, with some tourneys open for several months.. Compete on your own schedule, and it also provides the Angler with more potential trophy opportunities without weather conflicts..Take it easy..No one is 'waging a war'???...
I just don't get it either...There is more overall interest in Marsh-Carp events Vs. a quality Pelagic tourny?...
somethin' ain't right bubba...

I'm with you there and I will be signing up for the events. I talk to the East Coast Promotional guys all the time and see what they are catching, and it's no joke, but I don't see many of them pulling on what we have out here. The East Coasters seem to not give us much credit, but it's time we take that back.

Wade, I like the concept. Just not much into competing when I'm trying to relax. Hey, what happened to the March Sea Bass CKFS? Never saw the results.

Also, I think hiding results during a month long tourney takes away from a few things...building camaraderie, cheering others on, encouraging some to keep going at it...etc...just trying to help.

While I'm at it...I have another suggestion if I may(!)...hand out those little stupid trophies that people can hang on their avatars . I would love to sport one of those babies if I were lucky enough to earn one...2013 March Bluegill 3rd Place Champion. I'd sport that thing and walk around with both hands flashing: Jim

Thanks Jim I really appreciate the suggestions. Keep em coming everyone!
Stevoo secured the win!
All standings are always posted up to date on the main thread:
http://www.bigwatersedge.com/bwevb/s...ad.php?t=16364

The C.K.F.S. does not hide any results. It just allows each competitor the option of holding out.
Anglers may post up their results at anytime & are encouraged to.

Respectfully, I wouldn't dare ever add my little series of trophies to BWE when W.C.W. is only three trophies deep & given out exclusively to the most dedicated hardcore kayak fisherman & rightfully so.

A lot of lack of tournaments has come from the folks running them getting out out on the lack of appreciation and help from those fishing them. Little things like saying thanks and helping clean up afterwards. Also to notion that the organizers are making money off the events when they arnt.

OEX right now is planning only to do Benefit events as far as we have been planning. The sponsors appreciate these type of events more and we hope that the anglers will enjoy this more as well.

Our next event will be September 15th in Dana Point and the sponsors are already coming through for us, should be an awesome event with a few kayaks given away including a Red White and Blue Jackson Kayak.

The main thing is that everyone wants to fish tournaments and compete. Problem is there are only a select few out there willing to put the time and effort into throwing tournaments. Plus I have found getting sponsorship isn't th easiest thing to do. Also if you don't have anything really to offer besides the entry fees split up, then it's not going to bring in a very big crowd. 50%-60% of the kayakers I talk to on the water have never heard of some of our forum sites.

Like Wade said, participation is key. Also like Sebler said, the lack of appreciation towards those who do step up and host the tournaments. No matter how many sponsors one may have, there is still time, effort, and money coming out of their own pockets. This is for everyone on here who have had the same "?" In their heads and never spoke out and those who monitor the site and just keep to themselves. It's something to keep in mind if you are a tourney fisherman.

All the fussing, griping, and complaining about the rules and the way thing are set up and ran is a huge turn off as well. That alone will make someone lose interest in hosting. Something to think about.

Only directed to those who have done so.

I host tournaments, yet am guilty of fussing. I did it at home between me and a friend, but still did it.

Although it has previously been said, we all need to come together on a matter like this. There are some people on here who feel the need to puff out their chests and sound like a total badass when truth is, they aren't. On the other end of the spectrum we don't have to wank each other off saying crap like, hey nice 6" bass or killer sanddab. That won't get us anywhere either.

Supporting tournaments like the CKFS is at least a step in the right direction.

Amen to that!!!
Support Wade's tournaments or Jeff's. Help out Patrick or CJ. These guys aren't making jack, just doing it for the love of the sport.

So I think it can be safely said then rather than us all working against each other, let's work with each other and build this community of Kayak fishers back up. I remember reading about, and seeing videos of Kayak tournaments while I was recovering from surgery on my arm. Once I was well enough to enter those tournaments, they stopped happening. I loved the OEX tourneys, I may not have done well in them, but I had fun fishing in them and learning the tournament mind set.

All the BS aside, I'm looking forward to the tournaments, events, and whatever come along to participate in.
