That's pretty cheap, especially if you pick them all up

I think that's an average deal. I love the older silver Saltists. They are a pretty nice reel for the kayak. Used, I see them go for anywhere between $60 to $100. The 30T (narrow spool) is the most desired model, and IMHO the 50 size is a little big for anything we need on the kayak. Of the group listed in the link, the 20 size is the only one that interests me.
Those avet rods aren't that good. They are not produced by Avet, just cheap rods with the Avet name. I think Avet actually cut ties with the company that makes them because they didn't want to be associated with the poor quality. They have cheap guides, so so action on the blanks. They do have a decent aluminum reel seat though. They are "on sale" at Big 5 about every other month for $70. The two I bought new at Big 5 about 2 years ago I paid $40 a piece for them. If you look at the package deal, you do get a couple free rods, and 4 reels that will last forever. If it were me, i'd save a few bucks and just buy 2 set-ups that are the exact rod/reel combo you are looking for. |
