Smile Easter report from the bay.

Launched on 3/30 and 3/31. The first day was a no brainier. From Shelter Island I was only a minute paddling before I noticed bait breaking all around me. Very small bait. I threw a motor oil grub on and bam! I floated (With the wind) almost down to the pier with lot's of fish, including- oddly- a calico bass that was down in the lettuce with the spotties. I also got a short halibut. Great day fishing. The second day was more of the same. I am out of motor oil grubs now.

Nice! You would be surprised how many Calico's are in the bay. I catch a ton of them around SI and have caught a good number in the Tidelands area. If you shoot across and fish the AR next to the naval base you will find a lot of them as well.

Yeah, I have caught them in those big concrete docs on the other side next to the base as well.

Take April off from fishing.

That might be enough to heal the thumb.
