Are they even a little bit flexible?
I use the Yakima saddles and they actually conform a bit even though they look real hard! The 881's seem pretty flat and an Outback is really quite flat.

I bought the 887XT slipstream cause I thought the outback would fit better (just my opinion) haven't gotten my HOBIE yet. Will find out soon! Iwas told by someone with more experience with thule racks you just have to pay attention to the felt saddles & keep sand of them or they have a tendency to "slip".
