Cabrillo 9/19

Made it out for a few hours this morning before work. The water was calm, and the harbor was basically empty. Grabbed a few frozen squid and I was going to pick up some sardines at the receiver.

Once I got out there, went to fill the Bait tank up, and no luck! The bilge is spinning but not pulling any water up. I see it make it up about 1/3rd of the tube and that is it. I have never had any issues with the bilge pumping water into my tank, so this was a new situation for me. Long story short, I could not get it to pump any water. Do these bilge pumps go bad often? It is just one of the cheap 360gph RULE pumps from West Marine.

So I went ahead and threw plastic and soaked some dead squid till about 10am when the winds started kicking and headed in to work. Tally for the day, two throw backs and one relaxing morning with a little early morning equipment stress

Anyone know what the black spotted fish? I have never pulled one up before...

Dan

I cant tell you what you caught there but for the bilge pump it should come with a three year warranty, those rules are pretty nice ones. Maybe your battery was dead or the intake clogged?

The intake looked fine, but the battery did seem a little low. I was going to hook it up to the 12v on the FF to test it, but I was just a bit too lazy to scoot around the yak on the water and do it I'll check it out in more detail tomorrow. Thanks for the suggestions!

Did you check and see if there was any eel grass stuck in the impeller? There is a ton of it between the launch site and entrance to the marina. If you pick up a strand or two the impeller will continue to spin but water flow will be reduced to a minimum.
