Kelp Fishing 6-23-12

Hit the water early made my way out to the Mission AR. Couldn't find what I was looking for, after a few hours headed to the PT kelp. I must be doing it wrong all I seemed to catch where rock fish. On my way back I caught my one and only Calico. Still a awesome day on the water. In Mission bay some days you see the neatest things, If anyone has any kelp fishing tips please let me know. Thanks

Nice MB run!!!

I could never figure out why MB area doesn't get fished more by kayaks.

Don't know much about fishing inside the MB, but there's pretty good fishing to be found right outside.

Always good halibut fishing right there, can be great at times. Lots of sand and structure.

You take a left turn, PL kelp is close by. Rockfish and lingcod right in that far North end of PL kelp, 70ft.

Punch in the artificial reefs coordinates - Mission Bay reefs for sure. PB reefs are doable, but longer run from MB. It's a very cool structure to work for halibut, bass as well (mostly in shallower area, ~40ft and under):

The biggest thing to keep an eye on if fishing from MB - on big tide swings, it can be really tough to paddle or pedal against the outgoing current from the Bay. It can be like a river - BE CAREFUL!!!

That weird jet thing - we ran into it a couple of weeks ago.
And just when you think you saw it all...

Those size rockfish will still make some mighty fine fish tacos. They can be a nice consolation.

A river? Let's be honest, it's more like flushing a giant toilet.
