Island Adventure
My daughter is recovering and the time to get back on the water came though I couldn't get motivated till Andy said something about taking the Adventure Island out. My first ocean activity was sailing got my first sailboat at 8 yrs old. SOOOOOOOOOO Even with the wind gusting due to the houses I sailed down to the PCH bridge once past Simple Green wow! The sail pulls in and out in seconds so started drifting the incoming tide at the bridge and pulled this in on the second cast It slowly moved of the side of the hull. Brought 2 rods 2 baits and my Uni Butter. 4 bass came over the side before I lost my 2 baits (you know lite line) Sailed all the way back to the shop tacking up the channel was awesome the wind had picked up and was really moving............ Did the trick all charged up and ready to go!

Nice report. What kind of retrieve do you use there? I live closer to HB than Newport yet I haven't really explored it on my kayak yet except for a handful of docks inside the harbor.

Thanks for the post. Lately I've been fishing off an Adventure Island. It's not an ideal fishing yak but it does work and the amazing stability makes standing and casting pretty easy. I usually peddle out with the sail strapped to the side of the yak and, depending on wind conditions, raise the sail and get a free and fast ride home. Mike

Looks fun. Do you leave the fins straight down to act as a daggerboard/keel?

Steve, why are you using a bazooka for hunting bass?
You should be out in the channel, chasing billfish with that thing! |

Steve and I had about as much fun as you can getting skunked yesterday. We launch from the CG station in Newport and trolled down to the Artificial reefs on the HB border, probably 12 miles round trip......wished for more wind!
These are so incredibly easy to sail, we tacked out the channel against the incoming tide. I put a tramp on each one to stow stuff. We reefed the sails at the reef and drifted.
