Incredible sun-rise and weather. Slight wind but nothing too bad. Started at the south end of the strand in about 20 ft looking for a butt then moved into the kelp and then as deep as 70 ft (thanks to the slight wind pushing me out to sea). Paddled it back into the kelp and threw the plastics for two calico bass. released. On the way back, stayed in about 25-30 ft of water for another shake at a butt. All I caught was a nice sized sculpin, released. A LOT of bait in the water. I would have liked to dump the bait I bought had I not forgot my sabiki rig, seems it would have been easy pick-ens. Weather looks right for fishing. Go get em. |

Good go at it. Definitely a beautiful day yesterday. Cant beat sunshine and 75 degrees February. Think the water might be a little cool still for the calicos to really go crazy at the headlands kelp. Next time you should try heading out to the pipe and maybe fishing the little deeper structure.
I actually drove out the jetty this morning to check the water and there was some serious bird action going on maybe 1/4 mile off the breakwall almost straight out. Give this Sabiki rod i just cut down and fixed a go at catching some live bait next trip out. |
