Colors

Does the kayak color really make a difference when fishing? Do bright color scare fish away?

What does everybody think.

Some say fish are like people, therefor some fish may be color blind.

Damn I forgot all about that thread. Might have to reread it

Fish and Sharks may not see things the way we see them, but they do see things in their own way, and obviously as anyone who's ever bought a jig or lure can tell you, they are more attracted to, or simply see some things better then others.

You just got to put yourself in their place. Sometimes it's just a matter of perspective.

Years back I ran into toadpatrol up in Malibu. Scott had painted his kayak dark blue with some bait size squid painted on the side, I'd painted mine light blue with kelp shadows. He was like: "Why so light?" "When you look in the water it looks darker then that." I told him that while we see dark blue looking down, I'd think the fish would be looking up, so they'd see light blue. Scott being Scott was like: "Yeah that makes sense, I wasn't thinking about what they see but what I see" I always loved Scott, he had no ego issues, and was always open to new ideas. That said he never repainted his yak..

Seems like every time you say anything about kayak design you end up ruffling a few feathers. People definitely believe what they believe and most have no use for anyone right or wrong questioning their preconceived notions.

Personally if I was going to manufacture kayaks for saltwater fishing I wouldn't make them in red or yellow patterns, but then again the rental fleet guys love those colors because they can see the paying idiots paddling them for miles.

I mean really how many Yakkers have been killed by sharks in bright colored kayaks? A few but not many. Now compare that to all those idiots that were saved by paddling a bright red or yellow yaks when they got lost, went too far, lost their paddle, capsized, or got blown out to sea.
