when targeting groundfish or lings at LJ , where do you drop? in kelp , edge of kelp ?

Rockfish closed from Jan 1 - Feb 28

Lings closed from Dec 1 - Mar 31

May be one of the last Lings caught down there for a very long time if the MPAs go into effect in January as scheduled. Assuming that beast came from the bull kelp down south.

I believe the DFG recently changed the Ling Cod regulations and my understanding is that there is no closed season and the size limit has been reduced to 22". Please double check but I think I'm correct.

Damn, I'm wrong again.

You were right fishsouthcounty.

The amendment keeps Lings open until the end of the year but they do stay closed one month longer than other ground fish. Amended closure:

§ 28.27. Lingcod.

(5) Southern Groundfish Management Area: Open March 1 through December 31, in
waters shallower than 60 fathoms.

I think Ling Cod will be open all year but the 30 fathom depth restriction will apply Dec 31 - Mar 31.
