Cheap Kayak Garage Storage Idea (Pic's Inside)
I like to be able to use my 3 1/2 Car Garage to park my Cars in. I don't understand why so many people park their cars outside when they have garages, but that's a whole different topic. So like I said I want to be able to park my cars in the garage. I just purchased a Malibu X-Factor and a Stealth 14 and want to keep them out of the elements also so I needed to find a way to store them in my Garage, without having to remove the cars. So I looked all over the internet and found alot of different ways but the one I liked the best was the Ceiling Storage ideas. So I made a run to Home Depot and bought a number of pulleys, rope etc and had some great ideas. I rigged it all up and didn't like how complicated it was and the fact that I had a rope system all over the garage. I found that once I got the Kayaks to the ceiling I had to tie off the Ropes some place to keep them from falling back down and the whole process of pulling them up wasn't that easy either. Then a light turned on and I had such a simple idea. Tie Down straps. Since pictures are worth a thousand words here are the photo's and I will explain after.
So basically what I did was to Anchor Bolt 2 2x4's to the ceiling to hold the weight then put in a couple Eye bolts to hold the Tie Down straps. The Tie Downs are 16ft long each so I just set the kayak in between the loop and lift the Kayak with one hand while I pull the Tie down with the other. Works great and is super easy. Plus I can suck it all the way to the top of the ceiling so I don't have the gap that the pulleys made me have. I store them both upside down, the one was right side up because I was doing some work on it. Cheap and Easy. |

The best part is you can just lower it onto the top of your car ,unless you have a full sized truk ,then getting past the door may be a different kind of trick ,Good job

Yes it is a Roll up Garage door in the back and Yes I can roll up the door. Of course they have to be upside down and all the way up for the door to open but it does open no problem. Also I have 9Ft Ceilings in the Garage so I am sure that helps also.

Nice and simple, pretty cool.
It is nice to have space to park the rides. Do you park a Smart Car in that spot? |

Very nice, very nice. I like toys like you do it seems. But because of some stupid book I read we sold everything. I miss the BMW R1200 GSA the most. And the Motorhome, and the RZR and Ranger, well I guess I miss it all... Looks like you have a sweet garage full of fun, FAST Toys...
