mullet, business in front party in the back ?

How do you catch mullet ? I got one the other day and it was about the best fight I have had an any fish. the one I got took a worm, I know that is not what they eat. I can not put mud on a hook what bait can I use ?

When I was a kid in Venezuela, I will catch them with old French bread soaked in water on a bambu stick with about 8 ft of 15 lbs mono and a small hook; just trow some in the water to attratc theme and a little on the hook.
