Photo Report from the East Cape, Baja
A few shots from my guided trip to Punta Colorada. Just got back last night so mostly photos.
I got out for a day before the clients arrived. This is one of the biggest Roosters I have landed. It gave me one of the fasted sleigh rides I have ever had. Chris Adams with a fun size Rooster Jay Parker with a nice JC He fell in the water right as I was taking this shot, It was very rough out Craig Miller going for a ride Craigs JC So close to being an awesome shot Craig on his 2 ½ hour ride Not long before this shot, this fish tried to jump into my tankwell. I had to jump forward to keep from being hit by the bill. I hope the video came out. Pulling it aboard for the lap dance A couple quick shots and a healthy release. We use the panga to tow us to revive the fish. A few more Roosters Overall a very fun trip, had to deal with some cold water and wind but everyone got some good fish and had a shot at a Marlin. Chris also landed a shark of about 200 pounds but we only got video no stills of it.

Great pictorial. I noticed very little gear on the kayaks - looks like only a paddle, and a rod and reel. No extra rods, no milk crate, no gaff, no net...

Nice exotics! Looks like they upgraded the kayak from the last time I saw any shots from your E.C. adventures. Any lost gear or fish after the capsize?
btw, how would you rate the fight between the roosterfish, jack cravelle, and yellowtail? |

All these fish are Jacks therefore all are very tough. YT may be considered tougher because they live in an area often where they can rock or kelp you. But that All pull very hard and are a great catch. As to the question about gear on the kayaks. We have panga support on these trips so they guys can spend more time fishing and less time paddling to the spots, so they can also leave extra gear on the boat. Not to say you are not paddleing it is just for the long runs it is much easier to drag or carry the kayaks. On the Marlin Craig had been on the water trolling for about two hours before he got hooked up. The spot where we got the Roosters is about 8 miles down the beach from the hotel so we toss the kayaks in the boat to run there. It is also much easier for me to run from client to client taking photos and video from boat. We had such high winds every day on this trip that if we didn't use a boat you would have been stuck fishing in a very small area close to the hotel to be safe. Lots of reasons to use the support boat down there but mainly as I said it gives the people more fishing time and less paddling time from spot to spot.
