LJ 5-1 PM...........COWTOWN!!
Launched before three and paddled west.
Light wind, small surf, ugly water, temp around 62. Bait was hard to make. I finally ended up making a big ten inch Spanish and two five inch models. I ran into Pat and we worked usual area in front of the hotel. We could see birds piling up and headed out to investigate. Soon we were running and gunning. Firing iron as close to the yellow melee as we could. Pat had some encounters.........his story. I had the high low split going on while I was throwing the iron. My fly lined bait gets picked up and pull the trigger to soon. Pat paddles west in hot pursuit. As I am pinning on my last mack, my low line gets picked up......it's on. I was out in 100 feet of water. There was no kelp so I backed the drag off a little on my Avet MX. At first I thought I hooked a big yellar, plenty of horsepower. So much pulling power I then thought I had a thresher. The beast gave me a wild and long ride! To my surprise I get to gaff my largest WSB yet!! I paddle over to Pat for some photos. As we taking a few shots my last fly lined Spanish gets slammed about 15 feet in front of Pat's kayak. Here we go again sleigh ride number two. [ The 6 foot+- thresher cuts me off. Epic PM!! Thanks for the photos Pat. I tried to have the beast weighed at one of the landings, but they were all closed. Let the white seabass derby begin!! http://www.kintera.org/AutoGen/home/...qGbKDJLMvFnJXG Ken |

Ken, awesome fish. You are setting the bar high on the seabass derby. I've got to scheme on when to get back out on the water.

I got a call from a somewhat despondent Mr. Holmes last night. Great galloping goats, that's a big biscuit. Way to pull an Andy and just crush it on the first day. That's so cool.
If you get the chance, have it weighed at the OEX store as well. Should be good for a monthly prize. The derby is ON. Let's see if the LJ plastic nation can sweep this sucker.
