Lucky Me
Monday I went out for some of last weeks magic and to test out a new FF. Made bait in 85ft then went over to the cluster. On a carolina rigged double squid, 10 feet off the bottom I found a 37lb WSB.
I never go back the next day but I decided to today. I usually catch a real fish, then nothing for months. I have never come off the water with more than one fish, until today! After 1 1/2 hours and only scratching up 6 squids I put my first line in the water. I quickly re-rigged my flyliner to a Carolina rig and put it down 10 ft off the bottom. Since my kayal has substantial leak I knew I had little time. Almost immediatley my first rod gives a click... click then a big zzzzzzz. I put my rod in my hand down and between my legs and pick up my singing rod, set the hook and an awesome fight is on. As I was fighting my fish I put my other rod in rod holder to get it out of my way, fight is still very early and still strong. Guys in a private boat yell at me to look at my other rod and sure enough my rod in my rod holder is as bent as it could get and go in the opposite direction....uhg! Long and short... I landed both amist tangled lines and a broken gaff. 41 and 42lbs each. Edit reason:BlackCloud thanks for the info Last edited by ratdog; 06-29-2010 at 09:55 PM. |

Nice Job!
You're a better man than I. On my Yellowtail "double hookup" Sunday, I had to ask a fellow kayaker (nice guy named Ed, on left) to come to my rescue. Both fish landed, dispite a near spooling on my second rod, kelp, a tangle and a double sealion encounter! Nice WSB! Ken
