Islander trip may 28 to 29
What can I say I am hooked. The Islander trips are just amazing. Great boat, great crew, great people that you meet, and great fishing. Oh ya I have to mention the food. Fishing the island is addicting and is a blast! So if you have'nt done a trip yet check the Islander website or check with OEX and jump on one of these amazing trips! Check out the photos of this past weekend. I hope you enjoy!

No yellows were caught on this trip, but I would bring a setup for the yellows. We had about 6 spearfishermen on the trip and they told us that they could hear the White sea bass sounding? Hopefully it will break open this weekend.

Saw you guys in Pyramid. I was on the Vision (dive boat). Looked like you had a light load. Didn't see any WSB or YT. Saw some huge calicos at Pyramid Head. Great weather over the weekend. I've been on 4 Islander Kayak Mothership trip and Shane, Jon and crew definitely have it dialed in. Hope to get on another soon. bosco

Yep, light load but a great trip as far as calicos.
The morning got off to a slow start. Okuma man John Pawlak and I made the uphill run to China Pt in sloppy, nervous conditions where we finally found a pattern. The bass were holding in 30 to 50 ft of water among the isolated boilers. Every once in a while they'd clean up with a solid 5 or 6 ft breaker, so it was head on a swivel time. 4-in swimbaits in various blues had them snapping. I can't remember ever seeing so many followers. If I'd had my net ready, I could have nabbed three at a time. My big fish was 5.25 lbs. The afternoon session started on the coastal boilers for a steady pick. John, Nancy and Robbie continued to follow the coast, but I moved out to the kelp which was submerged due to a steady current. More hot action on nice chunks. I'd guesstimate it as a 40 fish day with a roughly 19 lb 5-fish limit. The weather was incredible. I've made this trip many times, but this was the first time I was able to fish all the way from China around the corner at Pyramid Head. We couldn't have asked for a better group either. The Islander was its usual epic operation. |
