Maiden Trip

We fished Cabrillo today around the San Pedro Bait Barge, traffic wasn't to bad, more boats than fish though. It was our first day out on our yaks, I ended up with a 17" sandie on a Berkley Big Gulp Grub, pulled him out of the kelp. I kept it alive until we got back to the launch site, snapped a pic(left the camera in the car), put it back in the water and helped it swim away to fight another day. I also got a nice hit while dragging bait on the bottom, it was it tore up my bait pretty good. I'm sure it was a hali but without landing it it's tuff to say.

When we got back to the beach it was a madhouse...people everywhere!!! As soon as we landed we had a welcoming committee, people on us like flies on........you know. How much did the canoe cost? Canoe Where were you fishing? I had to push a few kids away from the yak, they started snooping around, literally. I didn't want to be mean to the buggers but I still had some swimbaits and irons on the poles.

Anyway, it was nice to finally put the yaks to use, we need to work on a few things before our next trip. We're planning a trip to La Jolla in a few weeks, hope the two hour drive pays off.

I was out there today myself. If you want to avoid the beach crowd in the future use the boat ramp.

Nice meeting you this morning. Tough day fishing. My buddy got skunked and I c&r'd a 25" hali. It was a mad house on shore, but I was surprised the boat traffic wasn't worse.

I was concerned the boat traffic would have been nasty today so I stayed home & worked on the skiff - good progress, but still a ways to go.

Did you have a stinger on the bottom bait that got mangled?

Glad your first trip was successful!

I fished in OC yesterday also. It was a nice day, not much traffic in the early morning, Fished the kelp for about a dozen Sandies. Bait was easy to make. The dines were everywhere. I managed for the day 12 sandies, 1 short Wsb, 2 Calicos and 7 butts. All released, 3 were small legals the other 4 were shorts. nice day on the water not to crazy for a haliday.
