Painting a Yak

So I have the opportunity to buy an an Ocean Kayak Scrambler for $100. The only draw back is that it is Pink. I was wondering if anyone has painted a yak and if they have if the paint actually dried and stayed.

Dude, no one will make fun of you for having a pink kayak. Put a breast cancer sticker on it and you will be fine. Real Men Dig Pink!

Store in the sun and the pink will fade. I've seen people paint kayaks...PM CJ Siebler, he knows everything you need to know about paint.

Rustoleum makes a paint for plastic lawn chairs (made of polyethylene). It will work on kayaks. Available at home despot. However, I think it will still chip over time. Design your paint scheme to go well with the chipping. A camo scheme perharps?

The problem with painting kayaks is you've only got a thin layer of color, so every scratch and rub will wear through and show the original color. If you hate the pink that much you'll need a touch up kit with you at all times.

go with SAFETY ORANGE so when you get a scratch, the pink won't be so obvious!

The revolutionary no-prep, superbond Fusion for Plastic® now makes painting plastic possible.
  • No sanding or priming required
  • Bonds easily to most plastics, PVC, resin and more
  • Fast dry; fully chip resistant after 7 days
