3/14 - Dana Point
Got a bit of a late start, but was out on the water by 9:30am. The wind had already picked up, but overall it was a nice day. Picked up some bait.. the sardines were a perfect size. I then headed out to the Doheny Beach area in search for some Halibut. On the way out there was a group of about 5 yak fishermen who I see quite often. One of the guys said none of them caught anything good.. but only a shark. Seemed hard to believe.. o well.
So after about 10 minutes of dragging around a sardine.. I landed a short halibut: And then a baby sandy: and a decent size spotty: Overall it was a wonderful day to be out on the water.. I just wish that there were less guys on Jet Ski's.. |

Thanks for the report. Looks like you did well considering the recent, slow conditions. Maybe things will pick up a few notches with the grunion showing up this month? Sunday always seems to be the biggest day for DP jet ski.

I was out with 3 other friends. Two of them went out for the first time and are talking about buying there own kayaks. Went straight to the kelp. I was bouncing live bait at the bottom with no love. Used a war lure that I bought at the Fred Hall Show. Dropped it to the bottom and caught 2 big Sculpins and a small Sand Bass. One friend caught 4 bass and another caught 2 bass.
