Moyer Tourney 2009 Halibut Division Report
I caught two halibut, one sardine, one smelt, a few sanddabs, lizardfish,
a sole, and saw a flying fish fly by my eye. Flatties went 10 and 7 lbs, but only landed in Third place. These were beat out by the 14 lb winner (Kiyo again!) and a 10.5 lb fish. One was on a sardine and the other was trolling a hoochie rig.

Those are still some pretty respectable Halibut, even if they didn't break the scale.
How do you set up a "hoochie rig"?, is that top secret, or something you'd be willing to share? It sounds like a great thing to have when catching bait proves to be a challenge. BTW, it was nice meeting you at the party; I was wearing the blue Pelagic shirt and green G Loomis hat.

A hoochie rig
Nice looking Hali's! Well done.
Fishinkid, this is one option: Use a little less weight on the 'yak. I usually use between a half pound and a pound, sometimes less. Just raise and lower your rod on the drift and let it thump on the sea floor. The Hali's love 'em. Last edited by Willy; 09-14-2009 at 07:45 AM. |
