I have been there once from the yak. parked on the north side of the powerplant and launched from the beach. parking opens at 6am so an early launch on the first day is a no go but if your camping then you can launch as early as U want. surf can get pritty bad at times so plan your days carefully. good luck.
P.S. my trip was awsome. the baracuda were WFO and if U wanted bass all you had to do was drop a swimbait to the bottom and you were on. didnt try for halibut but i did see a nice flatty landed by the sportboat about 50yds away. so bring an assortment of baits & be prepaired for anything.

It's true you should launch on the north side of the power plant. However, the whole parking lot is on the north side of the power plant. So, to be more specific, launch at the far south end of the parking lot. FYI, much of S.O has excellent surfing. That makes it good for surfers and challenging for kayakers. Check the wave height forecast before you head out.

Camped there awhile back
I still couldnt get pass the gate till the ranger showed up at around 5 am (with everyone else) if you can handle the surf, go for it! bait is easy to make and lots of fishies hang around there (so do the sharks, ask John... Buttchaser) |
