Xmas Abreojos/La Bocana
The beach at Abreojos faces south so no winter swell and the prevailing nw afternoon winds are offshore. Campsite at Abreojos. http://s345.photobucket.com/albums/p361/barracuda016/?action=view¤t=Abreojos054.jpg" target="_blank">http://i345.photobucket.com/albums/p361/barracuda016/Abreojos054.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"> The mouth of the estuary at La Bocana. Osprey nesting everywhere. Air temp. 82....water 70...released an 80 lb. BSB the first day 1 1/2 miles out....second day too windy so worked inside for cabrilla (a faded version of calico...sweet meat). Third day worked shallow shoal for grouper out to 90ft. depth and as I started paddling in, yellowfin boiled and jumped just off my bow.....fanned the kroc and trolled rapala por nada (I learned later than a boater landed 4 YF and 2 dorado near me on rapala). No biggie....now I know where they are and as long as the weather holds out. Next day came the wind....2 days later the cold. The next 5 days I waited out the weather and except for a couple early mornings in the estuary for spotted and small halibut, I never made it back offshore. The local fisherman said it was wide open YT out of the boca but I only yak fish. The variety of species available in just a 10 mile stretch of coast is unbelievable. I'm in love.....again. |

Home away from Home.....
I love that place. I have bin going there sense 1980. Good surf good fishing of all sorts. There is a spot that's on the other side of town off the point were i fish off the rocks at low tide. Butts every cast & a white sea bass here and there. I have even thought about moving there. Until they built that road. I think those lots there are going for around 60,000 and to build.
You were there on the off season. did you get much. There are spot that are still good if you know were to go. Like down by the the estuaries. there are 2 that are good size and lots of tripy fish in there to get. I need to go back there soon. Thanks for the pics. |

Your camp site looks incredible! I loved Abreojos when I went down there. My friend and I destroyed his trailer while hauling his 14 ft aluminum into there and Mc Givered are way out. how is the dirt road into there these days? I'm heading down that way next week for 5 days and hoping for some good wind

Great pic's. Brings back great memories. I haven't been out there since the summer of 85. I have gotten great surf out there in the summer and had great YT fishing in the fall on LR boats just a couple of miles offshore.

In the last pic of the panga if you were to walk straight off the point on the left there is a reef out about 150yds. where there are lots of yellows(some very large) and WSB(depending on time of year). Both places have excellent fish. Don't let the wind get you, its normally offshore........

Cool pics and good info: Here's one more point about the loaded reef.
Flat clam. Then a bump: |
