Yellowtail Tissue Sample Collection for Pollutant Analysis
Hi there everyone,
I am currently working on gathering tissue samples to mail to a fisheries biologist in Japan. He is working on a going global study of ocean pollutants, encompassing samples from many species of fish, sampled at locations worldwide. Yellowtail is one of the remaining species which is needed from our region. If anyone is interested in helping out, I am collecting 50-200 gram tissue samples from locally caught yellowtail. This doesn't have to be a prime fillet or shoulder cut. Any tissue would work, but muscle tissue is the best. A 200 gram sample works out to be about 4 in x 4 in x 2 in. I know its been a slow start for 2009, so if you have any old chunks of yellowtail in your freezer from last year, these would work as well. Send me a pm if you can help out... I can pick up the samples if you live in San Diego, or fresh samples can be dropped off as you leave La Jolla at the Southwest Fisheries Science Center on the way up the hill from the pier in La Jolla... attention Owyn Snodgrass/ Heidi Dewar. Go get em!
