Seal Beach 1-31
With the return of summer weather and lack of a swell I decided to give Seal a try. Launched about 5:45 and headed toward the Long Beach breakwater in search of a reef Andy had fished last summer. There was no wind and the skies were clear and bright though still a little early morning chill. We got to the basic area and it took about 20 minutes to find the area it comes up from 42 ft to 31 ft and has some small structure and undilations on the bottom. First cast with the Buttered up Razor back brought a small Calico to the boat then the 4" Big Hamer hooked up a 14" sandie. Spent the next 1 1/2 hrs fishing the Big Hamer and bouncing the Razorback lathered in Butter for 1 more Calico that was 12 1/2" and another 7 Sandies from this size
up to and a double A few more pics Of the water by 9 am a beautiful morning and with the weather forcast may have to do it again in the next few days...................................

This was a big turd....I thought he was a gonner, came up from 120' and stomach coming out the mouth, so I unplugged my scupper and filled the live-well. At the end of the session I could hear him splashing all around and stomach back in its place I guess, so released him inside the harbor to the horror of the pier fisherman.....he took off like a little raptor.
There are a crap load of the bigger turds in front of the breakwall from 88' - 120'....plastic and live macs...didn't seem to matter. If you don't got anything better to do, this was outta redondo this morning. Not even a shorty or rake though. |
