10/21 Shangri-La Evening

Picking those perfect evenings to get on the water. I decided to take 2 Eclipse and let em soak for 3-4 hours while fishing with Steve. We launched just as the pancake of a sun set. Catalina sitting on the horizon, looked like no worries of fog tonight. Warm and light breezes. Tossed out the nets along the jetti and worked the rocks until dark with plastics. Steve pulled one fish off. We paddled out to see if the usual structure was holding. Nothing there so we ventured out to the rig. Steve was on a drag pulling fish and broke it off. Pretty quickly followed by the 19 incher above. I was pulling in 14 inchers on the GULP 7" Jerk Shad and finally got one just shy of 18 inches. If I let the GULP sit for any length of time a pesky sculpin would eat it. There was even a worker slaying the bass from the rig. Paddled in and checked the long soaking hoops. One short and one sting ray, glad I spent more time fishing than pulling!

Never too late to get in on West Coast Bassers, Love to see a late comer catch up to the three way battle Will, Steve and I have going. Currently big spottie is 18 inches, calico 21 inches and sand bass 22 inches. Nobody has even submitted the fresh water LMB and SMB yet.
