Been awhile...
Bet y'all thought it'd be from DP, well, I changed up a little, went freshwater this time, Hemet Lake.
Spent two days out there. Arrived Thursday afternoon, tried fishing from shore for about an hour, got tired of reeling in moss/algae. Rained that night and we had ice on everything. I launched the kayak a little late in the AM and after trying a couple of thing decided to troll a rooster tail around. That worked, my buddy out fished me though, he landed three while I landed two, and since he doesn't like to eat fish (well, his wife doesn't) he gave his to me. The next day no ice, launched at dawn, roughly, was the only one out on the lake, which was like glass. I again was trolling a rooster tail as well as a spoon that a fellow fisherman recommended. Two hours later I headed back to shore with my limit, not real big but hey, what can I say, not too bad for a freshwater newbie.

Very nice! Can't complain about a few trout for the pan.

Glad you....
Had some fun. Some of my best trout days were on the cold stomy days.

Nice haul for Hemet. I go there annually for camping during summer. Never caught trout but catfish or carp to bend the pole. I've yakked all the way to end of dam and couldnt meter anything big. I know the trout is down there deep but not sure what they are eating.

I did see a lot of fish along the bottom in about 35-45 feet and around rocks that I passed over, but no idea what they were.

I also found three of the trout that were getting ready to spawn, they had eggs and semen sacks. Kind of sad, but it points to a resident population there. I feel a little bad about being a baby killer.
