LJ fish report...not too good
First trip to LJ this year , targeting rockfish.
1. Beautiful day. 2. Dirty water. 3. Don't trust the surf forecast too much, bad surf in around 11:30am. 4. Sonar detect little or no fish activities , except pockets of bait. 5. Fish count : one 12" Copper rockfish. released 5 or 6 under size baby rockfish. 6. Watched this after I returned home : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0EOjf85IC1k Let's hope Mexico will fix the sewage plant soon ! |

Better luck next time. The Tijuana sewage issue has been a problem for many decades, you would think by now the Mexicans would get their shit together (literally).

Yeah, beautiful sunny day and light winds. Found plenty of bait and made 11 Green (pacific) Macs from 7" to the majority 11-13". Perfect Yellowtail bait, so I spent most of the day drifting or trolling a fly lined Mac in different areas around 1.7-2.2 mph. Other than bait only saw a few marks on the FF of larger fish. Tried getting out to deeper water and still no mark at any depth up to 300' deep, anywhere on the water column. After some time I dropped some jigs to see if I could catch some rock fish and after trying several areas and depths, I only brought up a couple baby Starry's. They where around 7" and so small I never ever felt them on the line. Descended both and stopped trying, cause it wasn't worth the effort and if I had kept a rock fish, it would have prevented me from being able to use more than 1 fishing rod because of regulations. At the landing the Fish and Wildlife agency taking fishing statistics told me he had 1 yellowtail that had been landed yesterday. There's always some around, but as has been the case for a few years now, it's been. You where at the right place at the right time. Still on a beautiful day, it's so nice to spend a day on the water. Tight Lines!

They're back in La Jolla, I released them, I'm not into eating Macs. Caught all of them just outside the MLPA border up to a few hundred yards west. Real dirty red tide water, but I guess they don't care.
