La Jolla 11/14
Parking was wide open. Paddling by sunrise and outsise the reserve and fishing by 630 or so.
Got into a lot of calicos at first in like 80-90ft of water on the blue and white salas 6x. At times it was every drop. Wasn't targeting calicos so it was more of a nusance, but some of them hit pretty hard and put up a decent fight even on heavier line. Calicos were puking up sardines and one puked an octopus. Went deeper into 150ft zone and picked up a medium starry that my buddy kept for some ceviche. Birds started working pretty good in the 150ft zone just south so we headed over there and it was fun bonito fishing. Smaller bonito though in the 1lb range so did catch and release on them. Bonito were biting everything, chrome krocodile, mackerel rappala, sardine coltsniper, and mint salas 7x jr light. Got to see some healthy looking leopard sharks and skates on the way in through the surf zone. Fun day of fishing, easy launch and landing, warm dry light offshores that turned into sheet glass. |

You can't complain about the entertainment value of that! Calicos on the iron are fun!
