Wrapping Up 2020 with a 3 Trip Combo | Bass |Sheephead | Halibut | Kayak Fishing Dana Point
Here’s to wrapping up 2020 with a mixed bag of fish combining 3 trips into 1 video. In the 1st one we headed north for Sheephead and had a successful trip. The 2nd trip was taking a shot for Halibut off Doheny beach, and the 3rd one was on the last day of the season to try for Sheephead one last time. We ran into 5-6’ swells at pretty close intervals.
I fished with Ryan, Anthony, and Cesar out of Dana Point harbor, and launched at Pure Watersports where I store my kayak. I want to wish everyone a Happy, Healthy, and Amazing New Year! See you all in 2021! Great video, as usual! Decided to spend the first day of 2021 out in that same general area riding solo on Friday. I think I saw 1 other guy out there all day. Swell was really big and the wind and currents were substantial. I will say the kelp was looking really thick and flat, off the point, more so than I've seen in a while! Fishing was slow but somehow I managed to snag an old dive bag with a large dive knife still in it...
Curious, are you just tying off to the kelp to anchor in place? |

I’m clipping onto the kelp. I run paracord through my anchor trolly and use a “Harbor Freight” plastic clip. It’s a pretty inexpensive way to go. |

Nice, I like it. I've considered doing that with like a small carabiner or something similar. Seems the last few times I've been there, the swell has been decent or the currents too strong and I'd be nervous tying up to anything.

Yes the swells been pretty bad lately. As long as you let out enough line to ride over the swell you should be ok.
