Five Star Fish Processing

has anyone used this service? i saw it in the paper and thought it was a great idea as i can't fillet a halibut to save my life. i called and the gal said they are behind Les Girls and you can drop off your fish between 10:00 and 2:00 and they will fillet and vacuum pack while you watch, no job too big or too small (watch them fillet, not watch the girls at Les Girls) . although i don't understand the pricing(.75 cents on the round?).

I think its supposed to be $0.75 per lb of fish, (rounded up of course). That is the typical going rate for prep, but I'm pretty ignorant so it could mean something totally different!

I used them after a multi day charter. They did a phenmomnal job. Better than any of the other processers i've used.

I've used them for several years after my long range fishing trips. They are the best IMO. Its priced per pound on the whole fish, not the fillet weight. The also make great smoked fish, too.

That's good to know.

I always used Pt. Loma Seafoods, but their prices are higher.

3 day trip coming up in August, I'll try them.

At first I thought you were going to watch the Les Girls but after reviewing the photo in the paper, the scenery may not be much better . The one girl is cut and looks like she could kick most our asses . So with that said I will need to bring my fish to their location when I do well.

I've used Mario at Sportmen's Seafoods near Seaforth, same price at $.75 per pound total fish weight. He will also make some great spicy jerky out of tuna or yellowtail for $1 per pound including cleaning. He recommends the fish be iced down overnight prior to cleaning to get the best yield and clean fillets. I usually clean my own but sometimes my job gets in the way.h

Has anyone used an electric fillet knife? A buddy who fishes for freshwater bass said it makes it easy to slide the knife along the bone structure.

We use one to cut up the already filleted tuna into smaller vacuum seal
size pieces. I'd like to find a cordless model to try.
