Curious if anyone here has tried to rig a single island AMA to a PA14? Seen a few people in Florida do it on youtube.

Seems like it would be nice to have a little more space (w/ trampoline) out on the water

Requires a little bit of mod work, but big question for me is getting in and out of the surf ... paranoid that if you get slightly off from 90 degrees when a wave hits the AMA is going to plant in the sand and snap the AKAs?

Also curious if anyone has done it without an outboard, or if that is a must?

Remove the AMA(s) prior to launch/land?

The guys that have made that conversion here in Florida, have done it for the added stability when using a motor. When they are fishing without the motor, on a PA, Most of them take the ama off. The PA14 has a ton of space relative to any other kayak. There is one guy that keeps the alma on, but he is fishing out of a Revo. It works well here in SE Florida because we typically have super small surf. Even when there is a big storm in the Atlantic, it gets mostly blocked by the lee created by the Bahamas. Guys in other parts of Florida use them primarily in sheltered waters. I ordered the parts to make the conversion at the beginning of the summer and am still waiting for them It's for calm weather use.
