Dana point 05/26
Took a trip up to Dana Point to fish somewhere new launched out of the bay there got bait and went around the corner north. Trolled sardines in 100’ up to about level with salt creek. Then trolled right out side the kelp down to the point. Turned around and went up the beach right outside the surf. Caught to very small White Sea bass. Then trolled south until be blown off by 12mph wind. Used a Carolina rig with 3oz with about three feet of 60lb liter. Still trying to find a leopard shark if anyone wants to join up and look.

You’ve been getting after it lately. Caught n released probably 5 leopard sharks in SD bay, military side shelter island area of the bay in 10-20’ water after dark. That was Sunday night.

I was anchored, I don’t think chum would hurt? I was using live bait and I was anchored. But I think drifting and dead bait would also work lol. They ar win shallow and we’re on sand near eel grass. Good luck

Keep searching and you should be able to find one of those leopards. Drop some squid down to bottom. What exactly do you intend to do with it? Fun to pull on, any shark for that matter. Soupfin will provide far more action though. Hooked one at LJ on similar rig as yours mid column. Better yet would be finding the mother of that seabass.

Leopard near the surfline line at doheney, just outside south of the harbor. Nice area to fish where you were.

I've caught white seabass without them and with canines. I've caught corvina without canines, and with other WSB type indicators (can't recall at the moment if I've seen them with bars yet). Either way, there's a lot of variation between them and they can be easily confused. The sure way to tell them apart is the zipper on the belly. WSB have them every time, and Shortfin never have them.
