Squid troller things

Does anybody use these in there kayak. I bought a tackle box and there was a couple in it. If you have what have you caught or hoped for? And how’d did you set them up?

Hoochies...
You can make a daisy chain with em and catch Bonito with my favorite lure...the surface action is so much fun...

The bounce ball method works great for Halibut with or without bait...The trick when using this rig on a kayak and deploying it...is to Keep Moving forward to avoid tangles...
Here's a good diagram of the rig...
I like to use the good Owner three way swivel rather than the old school one...much stronger and less tangles...
Use a Dodger rather than a Flasher...the Dodger swings back and forth putting a lot of action into the Hootchie while a Flasher just spins and doesn't give the Hoochie enough movement...to get as many strikes...
When you rig your Hoochies with a hook...be sure to add a couple of beads inside the body to get the hook to stick out past the Hoochie tails...a long shank hook is best....IMHO

How big of a sinker do you use seems pretty large a for a kayak setup?

That’s a very interesting article I haven’t ever heard of this I’m gonna have to give it a try. Have you ever tried it?

As part of preparation for the Alaska trip, I learned that a rig called “Hoochie” is very effective for catching salmon.
I had seen them, but never used. They have to be trolled, so not much use on piers, I would guess.
Then I learned that there is a better version called “Wiggle Hoochie”.
Needless to say, but I will—I had to make some.
The hardest part was to Snell tie the two hooks not too far apart.
Below are some pictures:

3- Various parts to assemble Wiggle Hoochie. The bead help the head not collapse. The yellow plastic piece is similar to bills on bass lures. It makes the Hoochie to wiggle and dance.



4- The finished lure with added flash that I added.


Years ago I discovered that if I set a great trip, especially fishing trip in the not too close future, I can think (dream) about it when my day is not going so well.

Saved me a lot of money on psychiatric visits!
